Department Committees

To promote American Legion baseball to the end that every post in the state will sponsor a baseball team and coordinate the program throughout the department.

The 2023 American Legion Jersey Boys State will be held at Rider University. ALJBS has a strong tradition of education, patriotism and excellence in the development of Tomorrow’s Leaders.

  • Two(2) $4,000 Education Scholarships
  • ($1,000 year for four years)
  • Four(4) $2,000 Education Scholarships
  • ($1,000 year for two years)
  • Two(2) $1,000 Education Scholarships
  • ($1,000 for one year)
  • One(1) $1,500 John Casey Scholarship
  • ($1,500 for one year)

The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students.

A.B.C Gaming

Committee reviews rules applicable to Alcohol Beverage Control and Legalized Games of Chance affecting Posts.

Americanism and Community Service

It shall be the duty of this committee to prepare and follow through to execution an educational program whereby the general public and youth of the state are apprised of the endeavor of The American Legion to promote patriotism and respect for law and order.

Children and Youth

This committee shall study and advise as to the best methods of cooperating with National Child Welfare Programs.

Department Convention

It shall be the purpose of this committee to supervise and coordinate all activities, venues and logistical requirements and changes to the agenda associated with the conduct of a Department Convention.

Department Newspaper

This committee shall be responsible for the production of the New Jersey Legionnaire in accordance with policies and procedures which may, from time to time, be established by the Department Executive Committee.

Finance

This committee shall prepare a budget of income and expenditures for the approval of the Department Executive Committee and when such budget is approved shall be charged with its administration.

High Point

This committee shall plan to be responsible for the High Point Pilgrimage to North Jersey, on behalf of the Department, which is to be an annual affair.

Internal Affairs

This committee shall consider, study and advise the Department Executive Committee on all plans for the more efficient handling of problems involving conduct of the Department and its relations with the Counties and Posts thereof.

Legion Police

To perform Police and Security duty, as required during Department activities.

Locustwood

This committee shall plan and be responsible for the Locustwood Memorial Service in Camden County. This Memorial Service is designated as an Annual Department Pilgrimage.

Membership

This Committee is charged with the responsibility of supervising and encouraging all Posts in the Department to secure prompt enrollment of all members. (more information on the membership page)

National Security/ POW/MIA

This committee shall be charged with advancing the National Defense and POW/MIA programs of The American Legion.

Public Relations, Publicity, Media and Communications

This committee shall endeavor to create better public relations between the Legion Posts and other organizations and to see that Legion activities in the Department, County and Posts are properly publicized, in order that the general public may know the good work the Legion is doing.

Rehabilitation General Services

This committee shall make a study of the general program of service and rehabilitation and shall make such recommendations to the Department Executive Committee (more information continued)

Rehabilitation Hospital

It shall be the function of this committee to provide, within authorized limits, the general social welfare of Veterans of New Jersey who shall be patients, inmates or members of any institution - federal, state, or county, and for veterans in the military hospital at Fort Dix, NJ. (continued)

Religious Emphasis

To foster and maintain Service to God and to initiate activities in the Department to make this objective affective.

Revised Legion

It shall be the purpose of this committee to be one of consultation and to provide advise and recommendation to the Department of New Jersey Executive Committee on all matters concerning its proper operation.

Riders

The Purpose of The American Legion Riders (ALR) is to coordinate ALR activity on all matters between the Department and New Jersey Legion Riders Chapters as neccessary.

Sons of The American Legion

This committee shall cooperate with the National Sons of The American Legion Program.

Scouting

The American Legion has supported Boy Scouts of America since 1919.

Youth Support

The American Legion stands by and supports military personnel and their families during service and when they return.
