Scouting

The American Legion has supported Boy Scouts of America since 1919.

The American Legion’s partnership with Scouting America dates back to the organization’s very first national convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in November 1919. It was there that Resolution No. 87 proudly affirmed, “The American Legion heartily commends the principles and achievement of the Boy Scouts and recommends that each post assist the Scout troops in its community in whatever manner practical.”

Although Scouting is not an official program of The American Legion, the commitment to supporting young people has remained steadfast for more than a century. Today, American Legion posts sponsor over 2,500 Scouting units nationwide, continuing a legacy of mentorship, leadership development, and community service. The Legion further strengthens this bond through national recognition awards and a wide range of opportunities that celebrate the values and achievements of Scouts across the country.
