2004 Oratorical Contest

The purpose of the Sixty-Second High School Oratorical Contest, sponsored by The American Legion as a National Americanism Activity, is to develop a deeper knowledge and understanding of the Constitution of the United States. Other objectives to be gained are those of leadership, the ability to think and speak clearly and intelligently, and the preparations for the acceptance of the duties and responsibilities, the rights and privileges of American Citizenship.

American Legion College

The 48^th Annual American Legion Leadership College at the National Guard Training Center, Sea Girt, NJ.

Applications must be received at Department Headquarter.

Eligibility
1.	Applicant must be a natural or adopted descendant of a member of The American Legion, Department of New Jersey (son, daughter, grandson, granddaughter, etc.)
2.	Applicant’s forbearer must be a current member of The American Legion, Department of New Jersey, or if deceased, a MEMBER AT TIME of death.
3.	Applicant must be a member of the graduating class of high school including Vo-tech for the year 2004.
4.	Applicant must use the award the year he or she received it.

Stutz Scholarship
One	$4,000

Safety Committee

2003 - 2004 Safety Poster Contest

SAFETY POSTER CONTEST FOR THE PHYSICALLY AND MENTALLY DISABLED AND HANDICAPPED.

This is a project of the Department Safety Committee to bring our challenged youth into the Department Safety activities. This project was approved by the Department at a Department meeting held on Saturday, August 18, 1990 at the War memorial Building in Trenton.

The contest is to be started in each participating school - ALL POSTERS must be in the hands of the POST Safety Committee. Please check in October for due dates.

2003 - 2004 Safety Essay Contest

Safety Essay Contest is open to 6^th, 7^th and 8^th Grade students in Public, Private and parochial Schools throughout New Jersey.

ALL Essays must be in the hands of the POST Safety Essay Chairman - please check in October for due dates.

Public Relations an Publicity Awards

Department Scrapbook - County and Post

Post submitting the best Scrapbook of the activities of the Post covering the period March 1, 2003 to February 28, 2004, inclusive.

All entries must be in the hands of the Department chairman - please check in October for due dates.

Department Publicity - County

County which has accomplished through its own efforts, the best publicity which has appeared in the public press, AND an accumulation of publicity from the various Posts in the county.

All articles and/or photographs submitted must have been published in the public news media, excluding Department, County and Post publications, during the period March 1, 2003 to February 28, 2004, inclusive.

All entries must be in the hands of the Department Chairman - please check in October for due dates.

Fithian Memorial Publicity - Post

Posts who have accomplished, through its own efforts, the best publicity which has appeared in the public press.

All articles and/or photographs submitted must have been published in the public news media, excluding Department, County and Post publications, during the period March 1, 2003 to February 28, 2004, inclusive.

All entries must be in the hands of the Department chairman - please check in October for due dates.

American Legion Americanism Award

Coloring Contest

2004 drawing contest shall be distributed to students in the 4^th and 5^th Grades by various Posts throughout the state. The coloring of the picture will be attested to by the student's teacher. Neatness and accuracy in coloring the picture are most important in this undertaking.

Posts will judge their own contests. First place winners will be turned over to the County Americanism Chairman who will select the first place county winner to be turned over to Department Chairman.
